Earth moving machinery training certifies operators on the machines that dig, load, haul and level: excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, dump trucks and TLBs. Fundza Training Institute runs them over five days each, from R5 630 to R11 000, with one-day refreshers on most. Individual learners train at our centre in Mokopane. Companies book a group and we train on site, anywhere in South Africa.
Every certificate here is tied to a machine, so the question is never which course is best, but which machine you will be put on. A few questions get you there.
First certificate, or a renewal? The five-day course is for a first ticket on that machine. If you already hold the certificate and it is due, the one-day refresher is the cheaper route — R2 460 on the entry machines, up to R7 128 on a dozer. Ask us which applies before you book.
What does the machine do — dig, load, haul or level? Digging is the excavator and the TLB. Loading is the front-end loader and the skid steer. Hauling is the ADT, the 40 ton rigid dump truck, the tipper and the rigid body truck. Levelling is the grader and the dozer.
Starting out with no ticket at all? The three cheapest at R5 630 — tractor, tipper truck and skid steer — are where most operators start, because they are the machines plant hire and municipal work put new operators on first.
Certifying a fleet? Operators need a certificate per machine class, so a mixed fleet means several courses. Send us the machine list and headcount and we will quote the set, on site if that suits you better.
Every course here runs over five days. Listed by fee, with the one-day refresher where one is offered.

For operators who run a tractor on farms, plant hire, municipal or construction work. One-day refresher at R2 460. See the course.
For drivers who haul and tip material on construction, mining and civil sites. One-day refresher at R2 460. See the course.
For operators who run a skid-steer loader on construction, plant hire or mining sites. The most common first machine in confined-site work. One-day refresher at R2 460. See the course.
For operators who run a TLB on construction, municipal or plant hire work. The most versatile machine on the list and a common second ticket. See the course.
For operators who run a motor grader on road, mining or civil construction work. Grading is a finishing skill and the ticket is valued accordingly. One-day refresher at R3 531. See the course.
For drivers who move material and equipment with a rigid body truck on site. One-day refresher at R3 700. See the course.
For operators who haul with an articulated dump truck on mining, construction or earthmoving sites. One-day refresher at R3 883. See the course.
For operators who haul on a mine, quarry or bulk earthworks site. A different machine class from the ADT, and a separate certificate. One-day refresher at R5 060. See the course.
For operators who run a front-end loader on a mine, quarry or construction site. One-day refresher at R5 170. See the course.
For operators who run a tracked excavator on construction, mining or civil sites. One-day refresher at R5 258. See the course.
For operators who run a tracked dozer on mining, quarry or bulk earthworks. The most expensive ticket here, and the one with the highest refresher fee at R7 128. See the course.
Earth moving operators work on mines, quarries, road contracts, bulk earthworks, municipal works and plant hire. The day is long, the machine is expensive and the work is measured, so sites hire on the ticket first and the person second. That is the whole reason these certificates exist: a site cannot put an uncertified operator on a machine, and its own client audit will pick it up if it does.
Certificates are machine-specific. A grader ticket does not cover a dozer, and a tipper ticket does not cover an ADT, even though both haul. Operators who work steadily tend to hold three or four, because a plant hire company or a contractor will always prefer the person it can move between machines when the programme changes.
The fee differences on this page follow the machine, not the length of the course — they all run over five days. A dozer costs more to run and more to train on than a tractor, and the refresher fees follow the same pattern. On a mine, the duties behind the ticket sit under the Mine Health and Safety Act.
No. Each certificate covers the machine class it was issued for. An excavator ticket does not cover a dozer, and a tipper ticket does not cover an articulated dump truck. Operators who want to be movable between machines take more than one course.
Most new operators start on a tractor, tipper truck or skid steer at R5 630. They are the machines plant hire, municipal and general construction work put new operators on, so the ticket is the one most likely to get used.
The one-day refresher is for operators who already hold the certificate on that machine and need it renewed. It is substantially cheaper — R2 460 against R5 630 on the entry machines. If you have never been certified on the machine, you need the five-day course. Tell us what you hold and we will confirm which one applies.
They are different machines and separate certificates. The articulated dump truck pivots in the middle and handles rough, uneven ground. The rigid is a fixed chassis used on prepared haul roads, typically on mines and quarries. Holding one does not cover the other.
Yes. We train operator groups at your own premises anywhere in South Africa, which suits a fleet because the training happens on the machines your people will actually run. Send us the machine list and headcount and we will come back with dates and a quotation. How on-site training works.
