What the course covers
An articulated dump truck operator is responsible for safely transporting material on construction, mining and earthmoving sites, and the course is built around that responsibility.
Learners cover truck components, articulation and controls, pre-operation inspections, positioning for loading, haul road discipline and right of way, driving on soft, uneven and steep ground, speed and spacing in convoy, awareness of site hazards, communicating with other operators, dumping technique and body stability, and correct parking and shutdown. The operating work is assessed practically on the machine.
How you are assessed and what you receive
Assessment covers a written knowledge test and a practical on the machine, where the learner inspects the truck, completes a loaded haul cycle and dumps under supervision. On successful completion the learner is certificated against SAQA unit standard 262745, and the certificate can be downloaded from the Fundza portal as well as issued directly.
What this certificate is worth
ADTs work on the ground that defeats other trucks, often in convoy and often in poor visibility, which is why competence is checked carefully at mine induction and in contractor audits. The certificate proves competence in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Learners can download it from the Fundza portal at any time.

Training runs at the Fundza Training Institute centre in Mokopane, and on site at your own operation. On-site delivery is generally better for a mining or earthworks crew, since ADT handling depends heavily on the ground the site actually has.
