What the course covers
The course works through the safety regulations that apply to site vehicles, then through the truck and the tipping operation itself, which is where most incidents happen.
Learners cover vehicle components and controls, pre-trip and pre-operation inspections, load distribution and mass limits, securing a load, driving and reversing on site and on haul roads, spotter and banksman signals, tipping technique, the stability risks of a raised body, working near tip edges and overhead services, and correct parking and shutdown. The driving and tipping work is assessed practically.
How you are assessed and what you receive
Assessment covers a written knowledge test and a practical, where the learner inspects the truck, loads or receives a load, hauls it and discharges it safely under supervision. On successful completion the learner is certificated against SAQA unit standard 262734, and the certificate can be downloaded from the Fundza portal as well as issued directly.
What this certificate is worth
Tipping is the highest-risk part of a haul cycle, which is why site inductions check this certificate closely. It proves the driver is competent in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and understands the stability risk of a raised body. Learners can download the certificate from the Fundza portal whenever proof is needed.

The trucks overlap, but the competency being assessed is different. If your drivers both haul loose material and carry equipment, they need both.
