Group Bookings and Pricing

Tell us how many people need certifying, which machines they run and where they are based, and we come back with dates and a quotation. Training runs at our Mokopane centre or on your own site, anywhere in South Africa.

What a group booking is

A group booking is one quotation, one set of dates and one batch of certificates for several people from the same employer. Instead of enrolling operators one at a time at the published per-person fee, you send us the list of who needs certifying and on what, and the booking is priced and scheduled as a single job.

It is how most employer work comes through Fundza Training Institute, because site certificates tend to fall due in batches: a shutdown brings in a crew who all need the same safety appointments, or a yard full of machine tickets expires in the same quarter.

Who group bookings suit

  • Mines and contractors certifying or recertifying a crew before a shutdown, a new contract or an audit.
  • Construction companies that need the baseline safety appointments in place before a site opens, and the operator tickets to match the plant on the job.
  • Municipalities training plant operators, general workers and safety representatives across several depots.

Fundza trains groups on site anywhere in South Africa, not only in Limpopo. Groups have been trained as far as Cape Town, for mines, construction companies and municipalities in most regions of the country. On-site training covers how that works in detail.

How a group booking works

  1. Send us the list. How many people, which courses or machines, and where they are based. If you are not sure which courses the crew needs, send the job titles and the plant on site and we will come back with the list.
  2. We quote. The quotation covers the per-person fees, the venue, and travel where the training is on your site.
  3. We agree dates. Larger groups are usually split into intakes so the site keeps running.
  4. Training and assessment. Theory and practical, with assessment on both where the course requires it.
  5. Certificates. Each learner receives a certificate per course passed, and it can be downloaded from the Fundza portal as well as issued directly.

How group pricing works

Every course on this site carries a published per-person fee, and a group quotation starts from those fees. The full list is on the prices page; fees currently run from R957 for First Aid Level 1 up to R11 000 for the heaviest earth-moving machines, with refreshers from R814.

Group size and travel are quoted per booking rather than published, because what it costs to put a facilitator in front of your crew depends on where your site is and how many intakes the group has to be split into.

So there is no published minimum group size and no published discount table. Send the headcount and the location and you will get a figure you can put in a budget or a Workplace Skills Plan.

What you need to have ready

  • The list of learners with full names and identity numbers, since these are printed on the certificates.
  • The courses or machines each person needs, and whether it is a first certificate or a refresher.
  • The site address if the training is coming to you, and a contact person on the ground.
  • Somewhere to run the theory, for on-site bookings. A boardroom, a training container or a canteen is enough.
  • The machine for the practical, where the course has one. On-site practicals are normally run on your own equipment, so operators are assessed on the machines they actually work on. If you do not have the machine, say so in the enquiry and we will cover it in the quotation.
  • PPE for the learners, to your own site standard.

Common questions about group bookings

How many people do we need for a group booking?

There is no published minimum. Group size is something the quotation takes into account rather than a gate you have to clear, so send the headcount you actually have. A small group may be better off joining an intake at the Mokopane centre than paying for a facilitator to travel.

Do you come to us, or do we come to Mokopane?

Either. Fundza trains at its own centre at 11 Van Riebeeck Street in Mokopane, and on site at employers’ premises anywhere in South Africa. For a group, on site is usually the better option, because the practical can be done on the machines and in the conditions the crew actually works in. Note that Fundza does not offer accommodation, so learners travelling to Mokopane arrange their own.

Is there a discount for a bigger group?

There is no published discount table, so we will not promise a percentage here. What is true is that the fixed costs of a booking, chiefly getting a facilitator to your site, are spread across more people in a bigger group, and the quotation reflects that. Ask for the quotation on your full headcount rather than on a sample.

Can we mix different courses in one booking?

Yes, and most employers do. A single booking can put the safety representatives through SHE Rep, the riggers through slinging and the operators through their machine tickets, in intakes that suit the site. Each learner receives a separate certificate for each course passed; there is no such thing as one combined certificate for several courses.

How do we check our people’s certificates afterwards?

Certificates are issued directly and can also be downloaded from the Fundza portal, which is where an employer or an auditor goes to confirm that a named learner holds a given certificate. That matters at audit time, because a photocopy in a file proves less than a record that can be checked at source.

Can we claim group training back through our skills levy?

If your payroll is above R500 000 a year you already pay the skills development levy, and part of it comes back as a mandatory grant once you have submitted a Workplace Skills Plan and an Annual Training Report. Group training is exactly what goes into that plan. See the skills development levy page for how the levy is worked out and the Workplace Skills Plan page for what to submit and by when.
