What the course covers
The course covers what an elected SHE representative has to know to do the job properly, starting with the law and ending with the inspection itself.
Learners cover the basic principles of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, the duties of employers, employees and SHE representatives, the minimum compliance the Act stipulates, the function of a health and safety committee, hazard identification and risk assessment, conducting and recording a workplace inspection, incident reporting, and the requirements of the National Environmental Management Act and the Environment Conservation Act.
How you are assessed and what you receive
Assessment is by written knowledge test covering the legislation, the duties of the role and the inspection process. On successful completion the learner is certificated against SAQA unit standard 246667, and the certificate can be downloaded from the Fundza portal as well as issued directly.
What this certificate is worth
The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires employers above a certain size to elect SHE representatives, and an elected representative who has not been trained is a finding waiting to happen in an audit. This certificate closes that gap and is one of the first documents a Department of Employment and Labour inspector or a client auditor asks to see. Learners can download it from the Fundza portal at any time.
