What the course covers
The course covers selecting and using automobile lifting equipment, and the checks that stop a vehicle coming down while somebody is under it.
Learners cover the types of vehicle lifting equipment and what each is suited to, rated capacity and vehicle mass, pre-use inspection of the lift, locks, cables and controls, positioning the vehicle and locating lifting points, raising and confirming the safety locks are engaged, working safely beneath a raised vehicle, lowering, and parking and securing the lift. The lifting work is assessed practically on the equipment.
How you are assessed and what you receive
Assessment covers a written knowledge test and a practical, where the learner inspects the lift, positions and raises a vehicle, confirms the locks and lowers it under supervision. On successful completion the learner is certificated against SAQA unit standard 12213, and the certificate can be downloaded from the Fundza portal as well as issued directly.
What this certificate is worth
Vehicle lifting equipment falls under the Driven Machinery Regulations, and a workshop has to be able to show that the people using it are competent. The certificate is what satisfies an auditor or an insurer after an incident. Learners can download it from the Fundza portal at any time.
